Both Institutes offer the possibility of engaging in Magister Study programs in English (Magister programs are five-year programs concluding with the receipt of a Magister (Masters) Diploma). They also provide remedial magisterial study programs (two or three year programs, depending on the candidates previous study experience and diploma, designed to conclude with the granting of a Magister Diploma). These study programs are available commencing in the academic year 1998/99. Payment terms are listed below.

FACULTY OF BIOLOGY AND EARTH SCIENCES
(PROGRAMS IN GEOLOGY, GEOGRAPHY, AND BIOLOGY).

It will be possible to engage in two-year remedial graduate study programs in English in order to obtain a Magister Diploma (corresponding to the 4th and 5th years of study of the Magister programs). At the present time the Faculty is not able to offer the full five-year programs in English. A minimum number of six foreign students is necessary to form an English group.

Costs for English Study Program at University are as follows:
A. For 4 Year Programs:
1st year-11,500 USD, plus registration fee of USD
2nd-4th Years-8,000 USD/yr.
For 6-Year Programs:
1st Year-9,500 USD, plus registration fee of 500 USD
2nd -6th Years-9,500 USD/yr.

The University of Gdansk offers foreigners the opportunity to study in English in its Institute of English Studies within the Faculty of Philologies and History, as well as within the English department of its Teacher Training College of Foreign Languages. These programs are already open to foreigners, who must pay in foreign currency.

The academic year begins Oct. 1 each year, and costs are presently 2,000 USD per year.

The Adam Mickiewicz University offers study programs in English in the following faculties:

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
(Programs in psychology, and social science, cultural studies, and philosophy)
Two-year study programs leading to a Magister Diploma, Second degree, are available in the above areas. Costs for such programs are 2,000 USD per year. Programs commence on October 1st of each year.

THE FACULTIES OF CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, AND BIOLOGY
(programs in chemistry, biology and bio-technology)
English study groups will be formed for groups of at least eight persons. Costs are2,000 USD per year for chemistry, and biology programs, and 3,000 USD Per year for bio-technology. The
academic year begins each year on Oct. 1.

The Faculty's doctoral programs are available to foreigners primarily in English, with some programs also being available in German and French. In addition, some selected topics are available to post-graduate students in the English language.
Tuition is 2,000 USD per year.

FACULTY OF LAW AND ADMINISTRATION
Courses within the faculty are conducted:
-in German in the optional program "European Law and Politics"
-in English in the third year of lectures in "Marketing and Management"
Costs for participation in the above courses for one year is 2,000 USD.

Doctoral studies may be carried out in English in all Faculties of the University. Costs for these programs are established separately by the Ministry of Education.

FACULTY OF CHEMISTRY
Programs in English are available for graduates of professional and technical schools seeking to add magisterial studies. Tuition is 4,800 USD per year.

FACULTY OF HISTORICAL SCIENSCES
A program in archaeology is envisioned in the event that sufficient persons register to create an English group.

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES
A program in sociology is envisioned in the event that sufficient persons register to create an English group.
Magisterial studies in the English Philology Institute are available without any minimum registration requirements.
Costs for he above programs (in foreign currency) for an academic year are as follows for 1998/99:

-Professional programs and magisterial studies-4,100 USD-yr.
-Studies in artistic conservation and restoration as well as art education -5,500 USD/yr.
-Doctoral studies in the humanities, social sciences, and economics; post-graduate study programs; and special studies in all areas -5,500 USD/yr.
-Doctoral studies in all other faculties -6,700 USD/yr.
-Habilitation and scholarly internships in all faculties -6,700 USD-yr.
-Continuing professional education programs -2,500 USD/yr.

All programs of study in all faculties are available to foreigners who have a sufficient proficiency in the Polish language. The University offers a one year course in Polish which concludes with an examination. Full-time studies cost from 2,000 to 4,000 USD per year for magisterial programs and from 3,000 to 5,000 USD per year for doctoral studies or remedial programs.

English Philology Institute

Romance Philology

All the above programs, with the exception of Slavic studies, consist of two stages: an initial three-year stage leading to the granting of a licenciate (bachelor's) degree; a final two-year stage leading to the granting of a magister (master's) degree. The Slavic studies program is a single five-year program.

Prices for the above study programs are as follows:
daytime studies in any offered area - 3,500 USD/yr.
evening studies in any offered area - 3,000 USD/yr.

The University of Lódz carries out several programs of supradepartmental, specialised post-graduate programs of professional studies in foreign languages, as follows:

POST-GRADUATE PROGRAM OF MANEGEMENT STUDIES
-An EMBA program (Executive Master's of Business Administration), in English, as follows:

Subject area
General economic management theory as well as internship in Poland. Graduates receive a Magister diploma from the University of Lódz's Faculty of Management, as well as an MBA diploma from the University of Maryland, USA.

POLISH-FRENCH POST-GRADUATE PROGRAM OF MAMAGEMENT STUDIES, IN FRENCH, AS FOLLOWS:

Subject area
Management accounting, finance, marketing, information systems, personnel management, law and business organizations (both Polish and French). And foreign trade. Graduates receive a special magister diploma an management from the University of Lódz as well as a diploma in management from the University of Lyon III, France.
Candidates
Higher education graduates from the faculties of law, economics, philology, medicine, pharmacy, architecture, or technical university with a proficiency in French. The program of studies is designed for professionally active persons or those seeking retraining.
Duration of studies
Two semesters of study in Poland as well as 10 week internship in France (or in some cases, with a French company in Poland).
Places available
30-40 places, with 20% reserved for French students.

CENTRE FOR MODERN TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION STUDIES

Subject area
Post graduate programs of study of foreign translators, interpreters, or students thereof who wish to add Polish and either English, French, German, Russian, Italian, or Spanish. Separate programs are conducted in translation and interpretation. Specialised language workshops in business and finance, law and administration, and European studies form an integral part of the program.
Candidate The program is open to all foreigners with a higher education diploma, a proficiency in either English, French, German, Italian, or Russian, and at least an advanced-intermediate knowledge of Polish (which may also be obtained at the Institute of Polish Language for Foreigners, see below).
Duration of Studies
One year, concluding with the receipt of an MEN-accredited post-graduate studies diploma. In addition, the Centre has a joint dual-diploma agreement with the Institut de Traducteurs, d'Interpretes, et de Relations Internationales de Universite de Sciences Humaines de Strasbourg, which offers its students the opportunity to also obtain a French diploma upon completion of their studies at the Centre.

INSTITUTE OF POLISH LANGUAGE FOR FOREIGNERS

The Institute of polish Language for Foreigners is the oldest such institution in Poland. For 45 years it has been preparing foreigners to undertake higher education studies in Poland in the Polish language. During this time it has taught Polish to over 13,200 students from 75 countries all over the world. Each year more than 300 foreigners enroll to learn Polish preparatory to commencing their doctoral or higher education studies in Poland, and another 50-100 enroll to learn Polish for personal or business reasons. During its long experience the Institute has elaborated its own teaching methods, prepared its own materials, and trained its own cadre. Each year about 15-20 members of its teaching staff go abroad to assist in the establishment of Polish in foreign centers and universities.

The Institute offers the following intensive Polish coursers:
Nine-month specialised, preparatory coursers
To prepare foreign candidates for specific higher educational studies in Poland.
Tuition: 3,200 USD for magisterial candidates; 4,200 USD for doctoral candidates.
General Polish language coursers
For beginners, intermediate, and advanced students:

THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF POLITICAL SCIENCES
Candidates are accepted who have completed at least two full years of higher education studies or a three-year language college. Graduates receive a magister diploma in the political and social sciences. The aim of the school is to prepare a professional cadre for high-level public administration. Classes are conducted in French. Tuition is 3,000 USD. Foreigners of Polish origin may receive a 30% discount.

OPTIONAL COURSES
A series of interdisciplinary remedial courses, both magisterial and doctoral, are being conducted in English within the context of the Baltic University Programme, as follows:

Sustainable Baltic region-1 year

There is no tuition for those persons chosen to participate in this program.
