The Lņdz Film, television, and Theatre School began its activities as a film school on October 18, 1948. In 1959 the activities of the film school and a theatre school were combined, and the school operated as a school o film and theatre under a predecessor name. It received its presents name in 1969 in order to appropriately describe its activities. Since its inception it has trained approximately 2,800 graduates, including more than 200 diplomats and foreigners from Europe, both Americas, Africa, and Asia. It graduates include: Roman Polanski, Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Jerzy Skolimowski, and Krzysztof Zanussi. It will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year.
As part of activities the School conducts a nine-month internship in English combined in its Faculty of Film Photography and Television Production and Faculty of Film and Television Directing. The cost of the nine-month internship is 5,000 USD, plus a one time registration fee of 200 USD. This cost includes the right to make one's own film up to 1,000 USD in costs. In the event, however, one does not produce a film, the 1,000 USD is not returned.
In the event a foreigner wishes to study Polish at the School, the tuition is 3,000 USD/yr., plus a registration fee of 200 USD.

The Academy of Music in Warsaw (AMW) is the oldest musical academy in the country, with a tradition going back to the Drama School created by Wojciech Boguslawski as part of the National Theatre. The Drama School trained actors and opera singers. It began to offer musical training in 1815 when Józef Elsner, the renowned composer, director of the National Theatre, and teacher of Frederyk Chopin joined the school. As the rector of the School, he transformed into a Music Institute. In 1826 it officially became attached to the University of Warsaw, but it was dissolved as part of the repressive measures taken against Poland following the 1831 uprising. It was recreated in 1861 and operated without interruption until 1919. Among its most famous graduates were Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Wanda Landowska. In 1919 the school became a state institution under the name of the Warsaw Music Conservatory. Its rector from 1927-1931 was Karol Szymanski. Its graduates included. Stanislaw Szpinalki, Witold Malcuzynski, Henryk Sztompka, Jan Ekiert, and Grazyna Bacewicz. Following the destruction of World War II, the Conservatory was quickly established in 1945 as the National School of Music. In 1979 it received its current name.
The AMW provides postgraduate courses in the following disciplines:
composition
conducting (opera, symphonic, wind orchestra, and choir)
keyboard instruments (piano, organ, and harpsichord)
all orchestral instruments
vocal (opera, oratorio)
theory of music
history of music
sound engineering
psychology of music
Applicants to postgraduate courses must have obtained at least the Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts degree and must submit:
a copy of their diploma
a certificate of good health
2 passport-size photos
a completed application form
Its is recommended that candidates for postgraduate courses send a nonedited 30 minute audio cassette recording of contrasting works or a portfolio of original compositions as a first step in the application process.
Applications for postgraduate courses must pass an entrance examination, the programme for which is no less than 50 minutes and which is held in the last week of September. The exam and entrance fee of 200 USD is non-refundable and due before the audition. The fee for postgraduate studies is 5,000 USD per academic year, payable at the latest by the 1st of October and covers only tuition. Average living expenses per person in Warsaw are about 300 USD per mouth (student dormitory) or 500 USD per month (private flat).
The Academy does not offer any scholarships, grants, or stipends. Information about the grants offered by the Polish Government is given by Polish Embassies and Consulates exclusively.
Postgraduate students are entitled to individual work with a professor (2x 45 minutes per week) and may participate in all group activities which they choose. The following services and affiliations within the Academy are available to the students:

If you wish to study at the Academy, please note that its courses are specifically geared to build on musical skills already acquired at the primary and secondary school levels. That average courses of studies lasts for up to five years and is available in each of the Faculties listed below:

Upon completion of the program the degree of Master of Arts (Magister) is awarded. The Academy also offers post-graduate courses in all Faculties. These last up to two years.
Payment of tuition fees can be done in one of two manners, as follows: scholarship exchange- Payment can be arranged through an official exchange of scholarships whereby a foreign student's tenure at the Academy is matched by a tenure for a Polish student in the foreigner's school of origin. Information on the availability of such exchange should be sought directly form the student's school. Information about scholarships from the Polish government is available from the Polish consulates exclusively.
Individual Payment: Tuition for the standard course of studies is 6,000 USD per year and for the postgraduate programs, 5,000 USD per year. These figures are for fees alone and do not include accommodation and other living expenses.
The Academy guarantees the student tuition and all other academic benefits. Please not that due the lack of housing places, accommodations in student dormitories are guaranteed only during the period of entrance examinations. After this time, private accommodation must be arranged.
Applicants for all courses, including post-graduate, have to pass an entrance examination, which is held in the last week of September. Cost for participation in the entrance exam is a non-refundable fee of 200 USD.
Postgraduate candidates are required to take only one examination in their respective department. All other candidates take an examination in their principal area of study, together with examination in solfege, history of music, and piano.
All documents, including secondary school certificate, university diploma, health certificate, etc.) should be submitted to the nearest Polish consulate, which also provides all the forms required by the Polish education authorities, or To the Academy.
It is recommended that candidates also enclose an audio tape recording of their own playing (a half-hour programme of their own choice) or a portfolio of their compositions. This should help to save unnecessary expenses should the candidate fail to meet the required standards.
Any person wishing to enroll in the 5-year Master of Music Course must have appropriate qualifications for entrance - GCE "A" levels or the equivalent- a secondary school certificate which permits them to study at the university-level in their own country. Please note that candidates for the Master's study programs should have knowledge of Polish at the start of their studies. This requirement does not apply to candidates for postgraduate courses.

The Academy of Music in Cracow (AMC) was first created as a Music Conservatory in 1888 by the renowned composer, Wladyslaw Zelenski. Its development was halted by the Second World War, after which it was recreated as a National School of Music headed by Zbigniew Drzewicki, and renamed the Academy of Music in Cracow in 1979.

The Academy of Music in Byddoszcz (AMB) is the youngest such academy in Poland. It was created in 1974 as filial of the Academy of Music in Lódz. In 1979 it achieved an independent status, and in 1982 its present name. In addition to carrying out its fundamental role of training highly-qualified musicians and artists, the AMB also carries out a wide range of other artistic and scholarly endeavours, such as organizing a vast number of public concerts, recitals, and cyclical musical series of concerts for children, the elderly, etc.
The AMB offers 9-month scholarly internships for foreigners in the Faculty of composition and Music Theory and in the Faculty of Music Education, and 9-month artistic internship is the Faculty of Vocal Performance and Acting and the Faculty of Instruments. The internships are based on completion of a fixed program established by a particular Faculty on an individual basis, and approved by the Dean of the Faculty. The internships may be carried out in English, Russian, German, French and, of course, Polish. Cost of the 9-mounth internships is 5,000 USD.
ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS IN CRACOW

The Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (AFAC) was created in 1818 within the Philology Faculty of the Jagiellonian University. In the middle of the 19th century, under the directorship of the renowned Polish artists Jan Matejki, the continues today to house its Faculties of Painting and Sculpture. The prestige and offerings of the AFAC grew rapidly, and became a leading artistic and intellectual centre in Poland. It restructured itself in the interwar years to increase the number and quality of its offerings, and opened a filial branch in Paris. Many of the leading names in Polish art are found among the list of the AFAC's graduates.
The AFAC can provide 3 and- a half and 9-mounth student internships to foreign students from accredited art programs. Post-graduate internships may also be offered to artists who have already obtained their B.A. or M.A. diplomas. In addition, artistic internships (3 and-a half or 9 months) are offered in English in the following faculties and specialisations:

The Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan (AFAP) has been in existence for approximately 80 years. It was created in 1919 as part of an Institute of Fine Arts, and transformed into a National School of fine Arts in 1946. In 1997 it gained its present status as an independent Academy of Fine Arts. The AFAP has always been characterised by lively discussion, structural movement and development. It has never been dominated by a single artistic doctrine, and today houses classical concepts alongside with the most contemporary. The school is comprised of its staff, students, artistic life, seminars, exhibits, galleries, museums, and conferences. Some of its discussions have been going on for generations and continue to be relevant.
